SPIRIT

The kids have loved spirit week this past week at school (mostly because they didn't have to wear uniform some of the days.) They had jammie day, crazy hair day, school colors day, crazy hat day, and free dress day! Kaylee has been planning her hair-do out for about a year now. Last year we didn't know about crazy hair day at school and she was devastated! She was very happy with the final product. She made everyone call her Kaylee-lou-who for the day.

Kaylee said to me yesterday, as I was doing her hair, "Mom, don't you think our school is being SO spiritual this week?" I think she's a little confused about the spirit.

Tonsils....

Kade has had a rough, rough week. I feel so bad for the kid. Last Friday (Feb. 12) he had to go in and get his tonsils removed. I have been putting it off because I have horrible memories from when Brayden and Kaylee had theirs removed. It was time, although it is not a fun thing for anybody!

He was really looking forward to this day. He had no idea what was going to happen to him, he just knew it meant he got popsicles, pudding, ice cream, juice, gum and anything else he could possibly want. They let me take him back to the operating room. I got to hold him as they put the mask on him to fall asleep. After he was out I laid him down on the operating table and had to go. It was so hard leaving him there. He was SO mad when he woke up from surgery with a sore throat. He was even more mad at the stupid IV in his foot. He was screaming, "MY FOOT HURTS!" As soon as they removed the IV he settled down immensely. They did have it really tight, kind of digging into his skin. Poor thing. He remembers me being with him when he fell asleep and then I wasn't there when he woke up. He keeps asking me, "Mom, why did you leave me? You weren't there." I can't imagine how scary it was for him to wake up sore and surrounded by strangers.

Brayden had set out his Tech Deck stuff for him to play with after he got his tonsils out. So the second we walked in the door he layed down to play Tech Deck. He liked that for about 30 seconds.
He actually did really, really well the first day. He was eating like crazy. He went through a couple drinks, soup, pudding, a peice of bread, a popsicle, ice cream, and a bowl of cereal. Too bad that didn't last long. I have been lucky to get him  through one water bottle and maybe a applesauce in a day. He absolutely refuses to eat. He will only let me take care of him. And if I'm not right by him he cries and cries.
Luckily he has been sleeping a lot (which means naps for me!! Yay!) I felt so bad for him after surgery. He had red marks all over his face from the tape they had put on him during surgery.
Hopefully he will start improving over the next couple days. Although I have enjoyed holding him more then usual, it's starting to get draining. We can't run any errands, and I can't get anything done. I miss having him as his usual self.

So happy we are done with the tonsil thing!

Secret Admirer...

Brayden received his first REAL valentine this year. After we came home from church, someome rang the door bell then ran. Brayden was SO embaressed! Everytime we see someone from the neighborhood we tease him that maybe she's "the one." He is sooooooo not interested in the girl thing....thank goodness!

Today...

Today was a good day, random day, but a good day.

*Brayden bawled and bawled as the new family took "Clifford." I'm a little worried about the emotional attachments he has to things.

*I totally gutted out Kade's room.  Their was a lot of work to do before we can paint and redecorate. In his toy box I found: 9 socks, an empty gogurt wrapper, and a core of an apple. So Gross. I filled up 7 garbage bags, some went to the garbage, a lot when to DI, and I saved a little bit of it.

*It's not surprising I found so much stuff. This is his idea of cleaning:

Today when asked to pick up his shoes, he just hid them under the rug.

*The sun was shining + Grandma Sonia brought back "Summery" clothes from Brazil= My kids freezing cold playing outside.

*I hate when you take the time to make dinner and then it doesn't turn out. We all ended up having random things for dinner. I ate a peice of wheat bread with honey and broccoli. Kaylee ate 2 peices of bread. Brayden and Kade ate an entire cucumber, bread, and a couple peices of meat. Mike had a couple peices of meat and a twice baked potatoe (those actually turned out.) I was too tired and bummed to come up with anything else. They didn't complain, but I'm starving now.

Random things I've learned this week....

1. Change isn't always a bad thing.

2. I can't watch American Idol anymore. I cry after everybody's audition. I cry cause I'm happy for them, or I cry cause I feel bad. I hate seeing people's dreams crushed.

3.I can't be sarcastic with my kids. The other day Kaylee was getting ready for dance. She was in one of her not so patient, i'm really tired moods, therefore she was wigging out about everything. She hollered at me, "What am I supposed to wear under my leotard. I don't even have anything!" I replied to her, "Jeans Kaylee. What do you think you wear under a leotard?" She got quiet and a couple minutes later she came to me, ready for dance....in her jeans. I couldn't stop laughing, but she on the other hand just started bawling.
I made her put the outfit back on when she was in a better mood, just so I could take a picture.

4. I hate working out.  I thought I was doing ok, making a habit of it, then I got sick and didn't work out for about a week. Now I can't seem to get motivated again. I found this funny quote off another blog. It is so the dilemma I have in my head every day!

"I gotta work out.I keep saying I gotta start working out. It's been about two months since I've worked out. And I just don't have the time. Which uh..is odd. Because I have the time to go out to dinner. And uh..and watch tv. And get a bone density test. And uh.. try to figure out what my phone number spells in words.” – Ellen DeGeneres –

5. Kade has no concept of time. There have been a few things that he has really looked forward to. He wakes up in the morning (approx 7:00) so excited for the things happening that day. He will ask me, "When we going?" I explain to him it won't be until after lunch. He quickly responds, "Well, let's have lunch then!" I guess I need to figure out a new way to explain time to him.

6. My kids can be very motivated to do things around the house when they have something to look forward to. We started a "ticket" system at our house. They have their chore charts, and then various other things they can earn tickets for. They can collect their tickets and "buy" things with them. They also have a list of consequences that they can also lose tickets for. Their behavior has vastly improved. They have been so excited to help around the house, be kind, and reach out to others.

7. It's kind of fun to celebrate Valentine's early. The restaurants aren't as busy and flowers are less expensive. I was treated to TWO bouquets of flowers this year! I have made Mike promise me that he won't buy me flowers on Valentines, because they are way to pricey. Apparently if you buy them early, that rule doesn't apply.

8. I now have a running total of 7 different doctors who exclaimed (after looking in Kade's throat) "HAVE YOU SEEN THE SIZE OF HIS TONSILS???? Are they always like this, or is he REALLY sick right now?" "Um, yes I have seen them. And yes they are always that size." Poor Kade, his tonsils are so large that he chokes on them at night, can't breathe when he get's phlemy, snores like crazy, and is always getting strep. He has an appointment to get them removed on Friday. He's really looking forward to all the popsicles, ice cream, and bubble gum.

9. It doesn't matter what month it is, it will always be golf season. At first I was slightly ok with the sport because it was only 6 months out of the year. But oh no...that's not enough. Mike has officially already been golfing this year. Every night golf is on at our house, and someone (I won't mention who) is practicing their swing in front of the tv. And conveniently there is a new indoor golf facility, this is fun for the boys, but come on...getting old.

10. I really need to work on patience. I am so quick to get upset with my kids if things aren't done on my time. I tend to get upset about situations that I may not fully understand. I think I understand what I need and when I need it. That's usually not the case. But I do know that if I can be patient things usually turn out for the better. I have learned that my kids respond so much better. And I am always happier in the end.

“Patience is waiting. Not passively waiting. That is laziness. But to keep going when the going is hard and slow - that is patience.”

11. My kids prefer "Clifford" over our new car because we let them eat in there.

12. Eating all meals at home saves SO much money. For the last few weeks we have done so well at taking lunches to work/school, and eating at home every night. But after doing this for awhile you remember how fabulous it is to go out to dinner. Yum Olive Garden!

13. I'm not ready to head out into the working field. I applied for an in-home job, went through the interview, came home and cried, then sent them an email saying I didn't want the job anymore. I thought I wanted to do something, contribute a little. But I'm not ready for that.

14. There is never enough time for everything.

14. Everything happens for a reason.

Good bye Clifford...

Clifford needed a family
So we chose him for our own
But our love made Clifford grow so big
That we made him leave our home

Cliffords the best car anyone could know,
He was the greatest car ever, we really think so
Clifford was loyal, But then turned on us
But we still love Clifford, the big red car!

Clifford, Thanks for the many, many strolls we have gone on together. You treated our family well for many years. We thought you were loyal to our family, but apparently you want to go somewhere else. Hopefully you can be kind to your new family...please don't leave them stranded anywhere.
