Race For the Cure...

I have had a goal to run a 5k. Where I'm not a runner, this was big for me. I hate everything their is about running. But when our Young women's group challenged everyone to run, I decided this was an awesome opportunity. I started out slowly, and started running 3-4 times a week. Doing it this way made it so it wasn't so miserable. My Dad and Laura decided they would run with me. This gave me some motivation and made running a more enjoyable. We would go running around Daybreak lake and let the kids ride their bikes or roller blade. I actually really enjoy doing this. It's a fun way for us all to get out of the house and get some exercise.
When race day finally came, I was so excited and really nervous. I had yet to run that distance (I talk like I ran such a far distance. I know it's not. But for ME it was huge.) I usually only did 2 miles at a time. I gave myself permission before the race started that if I got tired, I could stop and walk. That helped make me feel like I could do it.

Here is some of our group before the race

One of the ideas behind running this race was to honor some women in our ward who have suffered from breast cancer. Keri (pic below) is one of them. She was a leader to most of the girls that ran. It was such an inspiration seeing all the people there that were survivors.

Their were a lot of people there. But you didn't actually get how many were actually there, until we started running. Once the race started it took us about 10 minutes of walking before we actually hit the starting line. And as you looked out ahead of you, the view was amazing. Their were thousands of people ahead of us. Seeing the streets jam packed with people, running for the same cause was amazing. As we got up ahead a little bit you could also see the thousands of people behind us. So cool.
I am proud to say, I finished the race and ran every second of it (well except for a quick drink of water.) I got a burst of energy about the last mile and was able to pick up some speed. I ran right through the finish line. So proud of myself. The very best thing about the race was the orange they gave us at the end. I have never tasted something so delicious. YUM! As soon as we crossed the finish line, we headed straight for the car so we could make it in time for Kade's soccer game. I was happy to see him play, but sad I didn't get to see all these girls cross the finish line as well. So proud of everyone that put in so much effort to accomplish this.
